Pierre Cardin Lighting Collection By Laurel

In the late 1970’s noted French designer Pierre Cardin established a home furnishing line called “Pierre Cardin Environment”.

As part of this campaign, Cardin partnered with select American home furnishing manufacturers including Dillingham Manufacturing Company and the Laurel Lamp Company among others to produce exclusive furniture designs.

Announced in 1977, the Pierre Cardin Lighting Collection for the Laurel Lamp Company featured over 19 unique sculptural pieces contained in the 1978 and 1979 Laurel catalogs.

All Pierre Cardin pieces for Laurel are marked with Pierre Cardin’s logo and although Pierre Cardin had some input into the design of the Cardin Laurel lamps, the New York Times reported that he did not do the design work in their 1977 article.

In April of 1978, Cardin’s entire furniture collection were displayed with great fanfare at the High Point Furniture Show in North Carolina.  Photos from the “Pierre Cardin Enviornment” launch event can be seen below.

The Pierre Cardin Laurel lamps appear to have been partially designed in-house at Laurel by Richard Barr and Harold Weiss with some outside help from Cardin’s team.

The Laurel Pierre Cardin Lighting Collection was initially advertised in the 1977 Laurel catalog and pieces were featured in Laurel’s 1978 and 1979 catalogs.

Cardin’s entry into the home furnishing field was chronicled by the New York Times in a 1977 article titled “Cardin's Furniture Debut Shimmering Chic”.
